4worldlovers: The Guild Shop, a ministry of The Church of St. John the Divine, was founded in September 1962, by a group of dedicated Episcopal women, who wanted to use their talents to serve the Lord, their church and the community. They had a vision to start a resale shop. With their enthusiastic nature, can-do spirit and faith, they planted the seed and a shop began on Fairview Street. In the 1970s, The Guild Shop moved again to our current location at 2009 Dunlavy Street.

This year, we celebrate our 60th Anniversary. The shop today has many different departments, always full of treasure; furniture, clothing, designer clothing, household items, jewelry & art. We have 190+ wonderful volunteers and 13 full-time employees. Together we fulfill our mission that was set out from the beginning:

“To enrich the community as a Christian ministry and resale shop, dedicated to awarding financial support to organizations that serve the elderly in need.”

In the early days, The Guild Shop proceeds benefited St. James House, an Episcopal retirement home in Baytown. After the diocese sold St. James House, the Guild Shop continued its support of the elderly in need. Most recently, the opportunity has arisen to enrich more groups that do wonderful work. St Vincent's House, The Amazing Place, Star of Hope, the Turning Point, Vita Living, Weekley Family YMCA, Camp Allen, Houston Food Bank (Senior Box Program), Lord of the Streets, and more have all benefited from the good works of The Guild Shop.

The Guild Shop is blessed with over 190 committed volunteers, who enrich our community by ministering to our customers and each other.

Men and women from different backgrounds, religious affiliations, and ages (high schoolers to elders), and those with knowledge of collectibles, have discovered the joy of serving others while learning about objects that run the gamut from kitschy to antique!

Volunteers have a broad range of interests and talents which are put to use as salespeople, pricers and researchers, cashiers, merchandisers and more.

Volunteers are asked to serve one three-hour shift each week. Training is provided on the job.

The Cottage Shop has been a Houston treasure in the Montrose area since 1971. This one-of-a-kind resale boutique is owned and operated by The Women’s Home, which means that 100% of sales contribute to the mission of building communities that strengthen women and support families as they reclaim their stability. In addition to offering high-fashion clothing and home goods at incredible prices, the Cottage Shop serves as a vocational training site for our clients. Volunteers and residents staff the store six days a week under the supervision of our professional staff.

The Cottage Shop has a wide selection of new and gently used men’s and women’s clothing, shoes, jewelry, handbags and home goods. Our Boutique and Vintage sections offer high-end designer brands. Our inventory is constantly changing – our latest stock hits the floor each Wednesday – so you are sure to find a great bargain. We welcome you to shop our store for one of the weekly deals below:

Have a collection of gently-used gems hanging in your closet? Bring them over to the Cottage Shop and we’ll put them to good use! We accept all types and sizes of men’s, women’s, and children’s new or gently used clothing, shoes and accessories (belts, jewelry, bags, etc.). While we cannot offer pick-up services for furniture, we will gladly accept delivered home goods and/or furniture.

*According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, we cannot accept items with fillers (such as bedding, sleeper sofas, stuffed animals), medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers), baby items (cribs, high chairs, strollers, car seats).

Additional items the Cottage Shop cannot accept: breast pumps, wedding dresses, books, obsolete electronics (console TVs, computer monitors, fax machines, printers), any clothing or home goods that are dirty, stained, broken or are in unusable condition.

All clothing must be laundered or dry cleaned. All home goods must be washed. We reserve the right to accept or reject donations according to the condition of the items.

When volunteers give of their time and talent, they want to feel valued and use their specific skill sets in an encouraging environment. At The Blue Bird Circle, our volunteers, whom we call “Members” or “Blue Birds”, work together to support children with neurological disorders and their families so they can make a difference while finding a community of friends.

Together - shoppers, donors, consignors, and volunteers are making a difference for children with pediatric neurology disorders.
