JOB SUMMARY
At Houston Methodist, the Locksmith position is responsible for a variety of locksmith duties, requiring special training. This position is capable of repairing all types of locks and locksets, rekey cylinders, configure keyway systems, work within a complex key system and maintain key records in a key management system. The Locksmith position is proficient in all locksmith related... duties and interacts with various clients, coworkers and staff effectively when completing tasks.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE - 20%

SERVICE - 30%
• Installs, repairs and maintains all types of locks and locksets. (EF)

• Assists in design of master key systems; participates in design and construction meetings as necessary to assist with key designs and standards. (EF)
QUALITY/SAFETY - 30%
• Maintains an adequate inventory of related hardware, parts and other supplies, in order to fill requests and requisitions. (EF)
• Prioritizes work activities and maintains set timelines as necessary to optimize response time on work order trouble tickets (e.g. average time to close tickets). (EF)
• Follows safety standards, policies and procedures established for the department and hospital and conducts all procedures accordingly. (EF)
• Uses tools and equipment to perform the job in an efficient, effective and safe manner. (EF)
FINANCE - 10%
• Completes all assigned work orders and dispatch tickets accurately with appropriate key management/tracking system, within the established guidelines of the department. (EF)
• Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks, minimizing incidental overtime. (EF)
GROWTH/INNOVATION - 10%
• Participates in department projects. Assumes responsibility for growth and development by participating in in-services programs and continuing education. (EF)
• Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a locksmith. Generates and communicates new ideas and suggestions that improve quality or services. (EF)

As a full-service road tech locksmith, you’ll be given the tasks of emergency and scheduled projects in Houston Area and surroundings, including repairing, replacing, and re-keying locks. Additionally, you’ll deal with inquiries for duplication of keys, various lockout situations and key cutting.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Install, repair, and maintain residential and commercial lockable hardware for doors, lockers, cabinets, etc.
• Using a key cutting machine to cut new keys.
• Install and/or modify hardware for locks.
• Rekeying locks.
• Cutting and programing automotive keys.
• Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service. Includes after hours and weekend work per on call schedule.
• Lockouts: Automotive, Residential and Commercial.

Locksmith duties:
• Interprets Master Keying Guide; uses appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of the client's master key system while meeting customer requests.
• Installs, services, and repairs various types of locks and security devices.
• Installs and repairs door hardware and hydraulic closing fixtures.
• Disassembles locks; repairs and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.
• Cuts new or duplicate keys and stamps with identification.
• Issues keys and provides information regarding keys issued to Human Resources.
• Maintains records of work performed.
• Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains both mechanical locking and electronic key card systems.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
General Facility Maintenance duties:
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Perform assigned facility inspections and due diligence efforts, reporting on as found conditions impacting satisfactory client occupancy and operations.
• General interior maintenance - hang pictures, install keyboard trays, repair office furniture systems and repair doors.
• Assist the operations team in the maintenance and repair of building and equipment and/or as directed.
• Moves office furniture, machinery, equipment, and other materials as requested.
• Other tasks as assigned.
• Submit P-card Receipts Daily.
• Update work order status in real time.
• Utilize CMMS systems for all work performed.
• Perform all work with a strong customer service approach, successfully working with others, clients, and vendors on account.
Certifications/Licenses:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, state sponsored valid driver's license.
Related 3rd Party Certifications preferred; bonded locksmith certification required.

Nature & Purpose of Position
Oversees day-to-day operation and maintenance of the electronic access system of Sam Houston State University. Responsible for providing superior customer service and coordinating access system updates, repairs and adjustments.
Primary Responsibilities
Ensures security of Sam Houston State University facilities by monitoring the electronic access systems. Provides, removes, and updates electronic access by following SHSU protocol and policies. Installs and repairs given assignments, working from prints, sketches, or verbal instruction. Manages plans, layouts, cost estimates, and material ordering. Ensures all facilities are properly secured by maintaining electronic access systems, including but not limited to facility scheduling, granting/revoking/updating access, communicating updates, issues, repairs, etc., analyzing and ensuring proper inventory and access system supplies are on site. Assists locksmiths with tasks when needed such as, installs, maintains, adjusts, services, and resets all types of locks and locking equipment. Selects key blanks and cuts and fits keys to locks. Other Specifications
Tasks may require working at heights, in limited workspaces, and indoors or outdoors with exposure to weather. Position requires knowledge of University policies and procedures, electronic access operating procedures, as well as the ability to communicate verbally and written. Must be able to provide customer service and work with University stakeholders, students, staff, faculty, and third-party contractors. Must be available to work hours other than the standard University workday or week as scheduled or called out for emergencies or special events. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of a Locksmith, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
Ability towork in outside weather conditions on an airport ramp around aircrafts and the confined areas of baggage conveyor systems. Specific vision abilities required by this job include good close proximity vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Good hand / eye coordination is required. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is similar to airport operation with vehicular traffic. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, cold, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employees will work on an airport ramp around aircrafts and around heavy equipment.
