Job Description
The Opportunity
The Custodian is responsible for performing housekeeping, general cleaning, and other assigned tasks as required to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the school building and grounds. This position is a full time position with a requirement to work the occasional night/weekend. This role furthers the mission of KIPP by providing a clean, maintained and safe learning environment for students and faculty.
Key Responsibilities
• Open facilities for use by the school. When applicable unlock doors, disable alarm system, ensure that the air conditioning/heater turns on, turn on lights, perform a quick safety inspection
• Maintain a safe working environment for KIPP Texas students and faculty
• Learn building systems such as the fire alarm, burglar, main shut off and electrical breaker systems
• Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning entrance windows, cleaning and restocking all student and faculty restrooms, cleaning drinking fountains and white boards, removing trash, etc.
• Pick up trash on and around school grounds including athletic fields
• Respond to emergency cleanups of various substances
• Operate, clean and maintain equipment (mops, buckets, auto scrubber, etc.)
• Daily laundry duties (towels, mops, etc.)
• Perform floor work to include stripping and waxing floors, sealing floors, extracting stains from carpets, etc.
• Perform small handyman duties (replace light bulbs, clean inside air filters, paint etc.)
• Assist with the cleaning of campus vehicle fleet, if applicable
• Move and rearrange furniture & assist with breakfast/lunch set ups
• Formally check-in weekly with Supervisor(s) regarding supply orders, reporting issues in cleaning or known equipment failures
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned and requested by the Supervisor(s)
• Attend professional development meetings and training session “Continuous Learning”

• Clean and service common areas, restrooms, and offices; dust furniture and equipment; clean windows, windowsills, and light globes; empty trash baskets and remove trash; clean and polish sinks, mirrors, and similar items; replenish supplies of soap, towels and cleaning supplies; clean and polish brass, glass panels, doors, partitions, and paneling; and check and replenish soap, hand and paper dispensers.
• Report and/or make recommendations to the Director concerning maintenance issues or needs.
• Perform routine campus cleaning functions including, observing grounds; picking up debris or trash; storage areas, paint room, and other work areas in a clean and orderly manner; haul items to the dump as necessary; maintain areas behind buildings in a clean and orderly manner free of debris; and cleaning porches, outside windows and shutters as needed.
• Perform routine safety walkthroughs of all buildings; identify and report potential safety hazards.
• Direct/oversee janitorial work of volunteers and community service workers.
• Assist as needed with set ups of furniture, clean up, policing spills during meals, and similar functions.
• Keep utility storage rooms in good order by cleaning lockers and equipment, arranging supplies, and sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors.
• Assist with staff as needed to provide assistance and support to facility operations.

Basic Function - This position is involved with janitorial duties and customer interface. Previous experience is preferred, but not required in all positions. Individual must be able to perform with minimum supervision.
Responsibilities
• Perform all maintenance and cleaning tasks noted on checklists and as directed by the facility manager/supervisor to ensure that all dirt, dust, litter and debris is removed from all areas of the facility using brooms, mops, brushes and other hand tools.
• Make multiple rounds daily to pick up and discard trash and debris.
• Empty all trash receptacles inside and out, including offices.
• Note and report burned out light bulbs and any malfunctions of equipment.
• Clean all spills.
• Submit requests for repairs or maintenance.
• Follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
• Clean all Restrooms.

Job Summary
Summary: Keeps buildings clean and orderly. Performs heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collects and disposes of trash following approved procedures and infection control plans.
• Dusts and damp mops floors following approved procedures.
• Moves equipment and furniture for proper cleaning and place furniture back in correct placement.
• Cleans assigned areas with the use of assigned materials and equipment. Sanitize all surfaces. Follows the eight-step cleaning procedure.
• Washes walls, windows, furniture, baseboards and other items to maintain a clean, safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
• Seeks out areas requiring cleaning; takes initiative to complete the task.
• Completes all tasks assigned by supervisor.
• Performs tasks in accordance with all federal, state and county guidelines.
• Strips, scrubs, buffs and refinishes floors; shampoos carpet.
• Contributes to the team; exhibits professionalism with customers, fellow employees and others.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

We are looking for a responsible custodian to maintain and protect our facilities. The external and internal appearance of a building reflects on the occupants. It is important for a custodian, or janitor, to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning and tidying the premises, as well as preventing vandalism. The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodian role focused on building... upkeep. They will have great physical endurance to cover a large space. A keen eye for detail and diligence are imperative in custodial maintenance jobs.
Responsibilities
• Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces
• Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets
• Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables (e.g. soap)
• Wipe mirrors and windows
• Maintain outer premises by watering plants, mowing lawn, cleaning entrances
• Utilize insecticides to prevent infestation by dangerous pests
• Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks etc.)
• Report major damages and oversee repairs
• Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows and setting up the alarm
• Undertake occasional custodial and janitorial tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.)
Skills
• Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role
• Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
• Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
• Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices
• Attention to detail and conscientiousness
• Very good physical condition and strength
• High school diploma is preferred but not required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $9.80 - $10.00 per hour
