Great workshop! Shereen is an excellent instructor that has a very REAL and DEEP passion for the WHM. The facility where she holds the workshop is top notch and is a very comfortable, welcoming environment. I have always wanted to try the WHM after watching an interview with him on the JRE podcast. I wanted to try it because I’m an athlete that competes in BJJ tournaments, MMA and I love pushing my bodies limits. I found out with Shereen’s guidance and knowledge that the WHM has so much more to offer than I could have ever imagined. Professor Emeritus Joseph Lippman Nogee passed away July 11. A reverent stamp collector and classical music enthusiast, Nogee served on the faculty in the department of political science for 46 years before retiring in 2004.


Inaugural African American Studies program preps Houston high schoolers for excellence


Thirteen students from Houston-area high schools participated in the inaugural Emerge Leadership Academy (ELA), a summer program hosted by the University of Houston Department of African American Studies. The free, two-week program brought students from the Greater Houston area together on campus, ensuring their college readiness and deepening their knowledge about African American culture.

College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences History Professor Natalia Milanesio has been awarded the prestigious Leverhulme Trust Visiting Professorship. Milanesio is one of only 13 humanities scholars worldwide to receive this competitive award in 2022. She will present her research on the transformations of sexual ideologies, practices and media content in Argentina after the fall of the 1970s dictatorship and the ensuing rise of feminism in the 1980s.

Zambrana’s lecture, titled “Revisiting the Role of Family and Community Health,” shed light on the historical and current impacts of inequity within the U.S. health care system.
